Terminology Bulletin 257
The Terminology Standardization Directorate is very proud to present the FTAA Glossary, containing 5,527 entries in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. This is an expanded version of the first edition published in 2000, which contained 2,100 trilingual entries. This edition is different from its predecessor in that it contains equivalents in Portuguese. We have also added more than 1,000 names of conferences, committees, programs, organizations, etc., taken from texts on the process of establishing the Free Trade Area of the Americas. These names are often unique to the Latin American countries, and, therefore, the English and French equivalents for them are not official.
We have also enriched the glossary with some notes to situate an event or to indicate who is responsible for a particular program. Some entries have phrases to illustrate the proper idiomatic usage in each language.
Because terminology is evolving rapidly in this field, it is difficult to present a complete list of terms. We are counting on our readers to point out concepts that are missing from this work or to send us their comments via the Contact Us button.
